I have a group of 30 email addresses which I send a monthly newsletter. To avoid using BCC, how can send an email to a group without each individual address appearing? I do not want to expose people to additional spam. Please keep in mind that I only use the free Yahoo services. Many thanks.
How do I send an email so that only the group name appears in the "TO" field?
You will want to set up an actual "listserv" such as the groups that Yahoo runs, or another type of opt-in group. Any attempt you make to just put an unmanaged group address in the To field will open your recipients up for any amount of unwanted e-mail later.
For example let's say I run a domain letstalkaboutthis.com
and I send email to
group@letstalkaboutthis.com...
everyone that knows this list exists (and remember all your members have to do is forward the email to one person and it is uncontrollably lost in cyberspace) can send email to it.
Instead, I set up a listserv, at
grouplist@letstalkaboutthis.com...
this allows only members to email the group, or even just the list administrator.
Or, I set up a yahoo group,
letstalkaboutthis@yahoogroups.com
and the same type of management applies.
Also, members will be able to manage their own message delivery options.
Reply:I think I know what you're talking about. You have to make them a "group" name. It will send the email to your "group" without you having to type in the names each time. I'm not sure if the individual addresses will show or not though. Try a dummy "group" email, include yourself, then see if it works. If not, you'll have to do the BCC as a group email.
Reply:Send all the others as BCC that is Blind Carbon Copy then they don't show on your address list.
Reply:go to contacts and explore there
Reply:You can't do it (free mail or otherwise) without using BCC.
Put the group name on the BCC line to hide all the address within the group.
Yahoo requires at least one entry on the TO line---so put your own address (or alternate address) there---and your address is the only thing showing to anyone.
Reply:I don't know why you want to avoid BCC. When I have to do a mass mailing, I to: it to my own address and BCC everybody else's, to protect them. It's easier that way.
The only other way I can think of you doing it would be to a Yahoo! group, if you have a message board, and posting your message there. Then, the people would get it in their email boxes, either via the Daily Digest or individually, depending on their own settings.
